5 tips on keeping yourself motivated

5 tips on keeping yourself motivated

July 16, 2018

1. Keep your goals realistic

Don’t aim for the impossible, keep your goals grounded and realistic. If you try to do too much too quickly you’ll feel disheartened and unmotivated at your eventual failure. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t reach for the sky, just be weary of what’s achievable.

2. Keep track of your progress

Write your goals down into easier, more achievable steps and tick them off when you complete them. Keeping track of your progress and having a visual representation for how much you’ve already done will motivate you to keep going.

3. Reward your progress

Each time you tick off step on the way to your goal give yourself a little reward. It might be a quick coffee break, a moment to distract yourself with an interesting article, or something sweet like a bowl of ice-cream. Whatever reward motivates you to keep you going.

4. Give yourself breaks

Sitting yourself down with hours and hours of work is only going to lead to procrastinating and despair. Give yourself little breaks every few hours to let yourself recharge and focus on what needs to be done.

5. Don’t be afraid to fail

Don’t be too hard on yourself, if you fail to meet your goals for the week that’s okay, try and complete it before your next target. Everybody trips up sometime. What’s important is the progress you’ve already made. Allowing yourself to dwell on mistakes will not motivate you.
