A Day in the Life of Great Scotland Yard's Noel Alcoseba

In this week’s 'A Day in the Life of...' interview, Great Scotland Yard’s Noel Alcoseba provides an insight into his role as a Housekeeping Office Coordinator.

Hi Noel, can you tell us a bit about your role and how you got here?

There is a lot going on in our office because we are in operations, but I would say the main focus areas for my role are: I allocate rooms for cleaning to our Room Attendants, and I assign guest requests to our porters and the contact person for the front office to relay message to the Housekeeping supervisors for room rush and other request. I started here in Great Scotland Yard as a room attendant. Then after two months, when the Housekeeping office coordinator position was vacant, I applied for it and luckily I got the job.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I start work at 7:00 am. First thing in the morning I check emails and after that allocate rooms for room attendants and assist them with any requests, questions or help needed. Usually it’s always a busy day for us. As we are in operations, you don’t really know what challenges will come along and I like it because it seems that time flies so fast.

What part of your role do you enjoy the most?

I like when Gabi, my Manager, lets me lead the morning meeting with the room attendants. I enjoy talking to them, and asking how are they, and if they need anything. I also share any feedback from the guests with them. I get so happy to see the smile on their faces when I share positive feedback from the guests.

Which top skills are vital for this role and why?

Maybe you cannot call this a skill, but I think you must be very understanding because you need to deal with different kinds of people, different nationalities, different beliefs and different cultures. So in order to work smoothly with the team you need to be considerate with them and give them time.

How do you help others feel like they belong in your team/promote inclusion?

Asking them how their day was, informing the teams if we have any events, training or get togethers in the hotel and make sure their schedules allow them to make time for these important moments.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Ten years from now I would say I will acquire new skills. In my personal life I hope to have a family of my own with children – two maybe.
