A Lesbian Couple Held A Pandemic Wedding At A Drive-In Movie Theatre
May 14, 2020Bri and Lindsey are a lesbian couple from Texas who decided to not allow the pandemic change their plans of getting married, and decided to have the ceremony in a drive-in movie theatre.
The original wedding was planned for early April this year but the couple cancelled the wedding to wait out the pandemic.
“We had this beautiful wedding planned at this historic mansion in Austin but as the virus started expanding more rapidly and we were having these lockdown orders put into place, we quickly realized we weren’t going to be able to have the wedding we planned,” Bri said.
After a family member was diagnosed with the coronavirus, the couple decided they wanted to go on with the wedding this year, so they started to plan a pandemic wedding. “In that moment we realized no one is promised tomorrow, and we didn’t want to wait a year,” Lindsey said.
After looking around the couple found that Doc’s Drive-In in Buda, Texas was still open. They then called around to find a courthouse to get all the needed paperwork done and found one that was still open.
A few weeks later, the wedding was happening. According to ‘LGBTQ Nation’, the wedding was officiated by Jen Hatmaker, and attended by friends and family who were watching from their cars at the drive-in and from home since the wedding was also live-streamed on social media. “We don’t know when that will be but when this is all lifted we can’t wait to hug everybody,” Lindsey said.
