According to ‘LGBT Nation’, a woman in Cape Town, South Africa, sued her ex-husband for nine million South African Rand, approximately £500K, for coming out.
She claimed emotional pain, psychological trauma, and loss of income.
It looks like she has failed, for now.
This “extraordinary sum was based on the husband allegedly “misrepresented” that he was a heterosexual man just so he could have kids in a monogamous different-sex marriage” Judge Mark Sher said.
“By any standard this seems to be an excessive amount,” Sher added, “notwithstanding the parties’ societal standing, [the husband’s] alleged means and the scale of the litigation thus far.”
The woman’s lawyer is said to appeal the judge’s ruling.
