Actors Both Nattapong and Newyear Kitiwhut announce engagement

July 3, 2024

Cue the wedding bells as Thai actors Both Nattapong and Newyear Kitiwhut are now officially engaged.

On June 18th, Thailand made a historic advancement for LGBTQ+ rights when 130 senators voted in favour of marriage equality, potentially making it the third region in Asia to do so, following Nepal and Taiwan.

For the bill to become law, it must be endorsed by Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn. However, this step is largely seen as a formality and is expected to be completed.

Following the announcement, many LGBTQ+ individuals in Thailand celebrated the groundbreaking decision on social media, including Both and Newyear, who announced their engagement.

According to ‘Gay Times’, a video posted on Newyear’s TikTok account shows Both proposing in a room adorned with rose bouquets.

After collecting his emotions, a tearful Newyear agreed, and the two shared a sweet kiss amidst flashing cameras.

In an additional Instagram post, the couple shared photos of the incredibly adorable moment, giving a closer look at Newyear’s stunning Tiffany engagement ring.

Their caption read, “B: Will you marry me? Ny: I said ‘yes’ from the first day we met.”

Fans quickly took to social media to shower the happy couple with congratulatory messages.

One fan on X, previously known as Twitter, wrote: “AFTER SO MANY YEARS OF WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT, BOTH AND NEWYEAR ARE FINALLY ENGAGED. MY HEART IS SO HAPPY.”

Another user tweeted, “Both and Newyear got engaged. Congratulations to the beautiful couple.”

According to Out, Both and Newyear began dating in 2012 after the latter commented on one of the former’s Instagram posts.

Since that initial interaction, their romantic connection flourished, with the two even showcasing their vibrant chemistry in the popular romance drama ‘Top Secret Together’.

After 11 years of dating, Both and Newyear took their relationship to the next level by announcing their first engagement in September 2023, though same-sex marriage had yet to be legalised in Thailand at the time.

Under the country's Equal Marriage Act, Both and Newyear, along with other LGBTQIA+ couples, will be afforded the same financial, legal, and medical rights as heterosexual couples, including inheritance, adoption, and healthcare decisions.
