Adele Roberts Sets New Record at London Marathon

Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts has become the fastest woman to run the London Marathon with a stoma bag. This record-breaking achievement saw Roberts clock a time of 3 hours, 30 minutes and 22 seconds.

Sunday 23 April saw the 43rd annual London Marathon take place, the first to occur in Spring since 2019 due to the COVID pandemic. Adele Roberts was one of the participants, setting a new record less than twelve months after she stopped receiving chemotherapy for bowel cancer.

The Guiness World Records’ Twitter account announced the achievement after the race, posting a photograph of the bisexual TV personality with the caption, “Adele Roberts completed the fastest marathon with an ileostomy (female) in 3:30:22. Congratulations, Adele!”

Adele Roberts took to Instagram to record her reaction to the news via her story.

“We got the record. I was like: ‘Oh my gosh did we actually do it?’,” she said. “For ages I didn’t know my time because my watch broke, and I couldn’t tell because I set off quite late … so I was just really hoping that I’d managed to do it.

Thank you so much to everybody who was actually in the race, there were so many lovely people on the course and also everybody who came out to cheer even though it was raining. We did it, up yours cancer.”

Roberts later posted an image on Instagram depicting her with her Guiness Records certificate and marathon medal. She captioned the photograph, “We’ve just set a #GuinnessWorldRecord for the fastest marathon with an ileostomy … less then 12 months since I stopped chemotherapy. Anything is possible. For those warriors living with cancer, for all the incredible ostomates around the UK and for the heroes of the NHS. That was for you.”
