Alabama Drag Queen And LGBT+ Activist Libertee Belle Has Died

Alabama drag queen and LGBT+ activist known as Libertee Belle has died at age 61, ‘AL’ reports.

The performer was one of the organizers of the Central Alabama OPRide back in the 1980s and, at least once, served as grand marshal of Birmingham’s gay pride.

She was one of the highest-profile members of Alabama’s LGBT+ community.

Born Ronald Norman Simoneau Jr.and a navy veteran, he first performed in drag in Massachusetts before becoming active in the gay community in Alabama.

He was found dead in his apartment and a cause of death has not yet been released.
