Alabama Republican Official Tells Local TV Station Gay People “Have Too Much Power”

A Republican treasurer for Mobile County, Alabama has made a small media storm for himself by commenting on Colorado baker story.

Phil Benson defended the baker who claimed he couldn’t bake cakes for gay people because of his religion.

“This poor guy needs to move to a place he is wanted. Freaking queers have gotten too much sympathy. A real abomination,” he wrote.

Benson refused to apologise for the comment when interviewed by WPMI, a local TV outlet.

After being asked if he knew his remarks were offensive to gay people, Benson replied: “And gay people are offensive to me. Do you understand that?

“They can be very offensive. All this beautiful rainbow stuff.”

Referencing President Obama, he said: “When one of our presidents lit the White House with wonderful rainbow colours that offended me… I’m sorry they are offended. Their lifestyle offends me.”

He lamented that gay people “have gotten too much power” and that the government allows this.

“It’s not only the gays, the LBG-ABC whatever. All groups have gotten just too strong, too powerful.”
