Production has commenced on Tip Toe, the latest drama from multi-BAFTA-winning writer Russell T Davies (It's a Sin, Queer as Folk) for Channel 4, with Alan Cumming and David Morrissey announced in leading roles.
Alan Cumming, renowned Emmy and Tony Award-winner and Golden Globe nominee, will portray Leo, the charismatic and witty owner of "Spit & Polish," a bar located in Manchester's vibrant Gay Village.
David Morrissey, BAFTA-nominated and RTS-winner, takes on the role of Clive, Leo's taciturn and troubled neighbor.
Channel 4 reports that Cumming expressed his enthusiasm for the project: "The best things in life are worth waiting for, and the best people… This is truly an honour.”
Morrissey echoed the sentiment, stating, "It’s a privilege to be with them both on this astonishing piece of work."
Tip Toe, a five-part series, explores the evolving relationship between Leo and Clive, long-time neighbors whose lives are disrupted by increasing social tension. As words become weapons and opinions become radicalized, their once amicable relationship devolves into a deadly rivalry, challenging viewers' perceptions of safety and tolerance. The series, known for Davies’ characteristic wit, addresses prejudices resurfacing in contemporary society.
Joining Cumming and Morrissey are Pooky Quesnel as Clive's wife Marie, Jackson Connor as Clive's youngest son George, Joseph Evans as George's older brother Saul, Elizabeth Berrington as Leo's best friend Stephanie, Iz Hesketh as Zee, Shakeel Kimotho as Hanna, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as bar manager Judy, Paul Rhys as Canal Street fixture Melba, Charlie Condou as Leo's ex-husband Curtis, and Denise Welch as Diane.
Tip Toe will be produced by Quay Street Productions in association with ITV Studios, with Nicola Shindler, Russell T Davies, Peter Hoar, and Alan Cumming serving as Executive Producers. The series will be directed by Peter Hoar, produced by Phil Collinson, and cast by Andy Pryor. Gemma Boswell is the Commissioning Editor at Channel 4. ITV Studios will handle international distribution.
