Anti-Gay Preacher Banned From Entering Ireland

Steven Anderson, the anti-LGBT+ American preacher who called for all gay people to be “executed”, has been banned from entering Ireland following an intense public backlash to planned talks he was set to give in Dublin, reports The Irish Times.

Ireland’s Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan made the announcement over the weekend that they have banned Anderson “in the interests of public policy” via an exclusion order.

Under this order it is possible for the Minister of Justice to ban anybody if it is “necessary in the interest of national security or public policy.”

This is the first time someone has been banned under this order since 1999.

Ireland has followed most of Europe in refusing to let the preacher give hate speech across their country,Anderson was due to speak in the Netherlands and Sweden at the end of May, but was banned from entering any country in the Schengen Area after a campaign from the Netherlands’ security minister Mark Harbers.
