Australian Police Offer $1M Reward for Information on Hate Crime Murder

Australian police have announced they will offer a one-million-dollar reward to anyone who can come forward with information on the murder of Scott Johnson in 1988, reports ABC News.

Johnson’s murder was initially ruled as a suicide when he was discovered thirty years ago dead at the bottom of a cliff in Sydney. However, last year the New South Wales coroner ruled that he was actually the victim of a hate crime and was either pushed to his death or fell while trying to escape his attackers.

The reward will be paid to anyone who can come forward with information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of those attackers.

New South Wales Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said it was “horrendous” that the killers are still out there.

“If you know something, if you know who committed this crime, and if you know who was at the scene at the time, there is $1 million on the table to get to the bottom of the truth.”

“I’m very encouraged,” said Johnson’s brother. “The million-dollar reward is speaking to the community that the police are taking this seriously and they need people’s help.”
