Australian rugby player Israel Falau has Land Rover confiscated in wake of homophobic comments
May 18, 2018Israel Falau, continues to face consequences for his intensely homophobic remarks on Instagram. In April the Australian rugby player replied to a comment that asked him what God’s plan was for gay people Folau said “HELL. Unless they repent of their sins and turn to God”.
Instead of issuing an apology Folau has doubled down on his views and compared himself to a prophet, posting a highlight Bible verse on Instagram: “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
“Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.”
He later said in a statement: “I stand firm in what I believe in and that’s something personal with who I am. That’s something that comes truly from the bottom of my heart. That doesn’t interfere with anything to do with my rugby and the guys around me.”
Now, Land Rover has taken back a car they gave the athlete as part of an AU$850,000 sponsorship deal with Rugby Australia. The company has apparently done this in direct response to Falau’s comments.
Yet, Falau still hasn’t received any disciplinary action from Rugby Australia.
