Australia’s Perth set to host Gay Games XIII in 2030

October 29, 2025

Perth, Australia has been named the presumptive host city for Gay Games XIII in 2030, the Federation of Gay Games (FGG) has announced. The city will become only the second in Oceania to welcome the world’s largest inclusive sporting and cultural event.

The decision follows a 20-month global bidding process in which Perth competed with Denver, USA. Both cities submitted detailed plans, hosted site inspections, and answered extensive questions from FGG delegates.

“I’m inspired and thankful for the incredible effort by both bid cities to advance the global LGBTQ+ sporting and cultural movement,” said an FGG representative. “I’m excited to reconnect with communities across Oceania and Asia, building on the legacy of Sydney 2002 and following Gay Games Hong Kong.”

The winner was announced at the FGG Annual General Assembly in València, Spain, the host of Gay Games XII in 2026. Bid teams presented their final pitches and met with delegates before the board cast their vote.

“Perth is incredibly honoured to be named the presumptive host for Gay Games XIII 2030,” said Laurie Butterly, co-chair of the Perth bid team. “This is for our LGBTQIA+ community, who have worked tirelessly to support this bid. We can’t wait to bring the world to Perth in 2030.”

The announcement marks the beginning of several years of planning, including annual site visits and regular progress meetings with the FGG.

Denver, the runner-up, presented an ambitious bid featuring multiple hubs across the city and greater metropolitan area. While their bid was ultimately not selected, the FGG praised their efforts and noted that the city would be welcome to bid for Gay Games 2034.

The FGG will now begin formal contract negotiations with the Perth Organizing Committee. Once finalized, Perth will join the ranks of iconic Gay Games host cities, including San Francisco, Paris, Hong Kong, Guadalajara, and València.
