BBC Implements New Policy to Improve Work Environment for LGBT+ Employees.

The BBC has announced new policies to better the working life of LGBT+ staff.

The new polices come after a survey found most LGBT+ BBC employees thought the company was a good place to work, but that more could be done. Surveying 300 employees they found that 11 percent of employees, and 12 percent of leaders identify as LGBT+.

The resulting report came with 10 recommendations to improve working conditions for the LGBT+ through educating staff about the community, increasing the visibility and prominence of LGBT+ staff, and allowing employees to be open about their sexual orientation and gender identity.

The report also recommends that the company build an LGBT+ network with straight allies who can promote LGBT+ events and foster a sense of community.

“Although we hope the recommendations will positively impact everyone across the LGBTQ+ spectrum, we are particularly excited about the proposal for providing better support for our transgender colleagues and improving visibility with role models throughout the business,” said Karen Millington and Matt Weaver, Co-chairs of the BBC’s Pride Network.
