BBC Names First LGBT+ News Correspondent

The BBC have announced that Ben Hunte will become their first LGBT+ News correspondent.

Hunte, who currently works with BBC Africa and has presented several LGBT-themed programs in the past, will take on this new role in January.

He will report on stories specifically about sexuality and gender identity and provide key insight and analysis.

He said the job was “a dream come true… I'm delighted... and I am looking forward to finding and telling stories from the LGBT community.”

Hunte’s previous work includes his interview series with Gay Britannia which featured such guests as Paul O'Grady and Stephen K Amos.

"BBC News has a rich heritage of covering issues and debates from the LGBT community,” said Richard Burgess, UK news editor for BBC News.

“This year we announced our first gender and identity correspondent, Megha Mohan, and I'm thrilled that Ben will be taking up this dedicated role which aims to strengthen our offering of LGBT stories and original journalism across the BBC."
