Best Pride Month Party Songs 2023

2023 has been a fantastic year for pop music so far. With brand new tracks from the likes of Kylie Minogue, Sam Smith and Miley Cyrus, it can feel like there are far too many hits to choose from when curating your Pride party playlists. So, why not let us do all the work for you? Here are some of the greatest LGBTQ+ anthems from the past year, ready to take you all through June right into summer! Padam Padam – Kylie Minogue

We’re not sure what hypnotic spell Kylie Minogue cast over the queer community when she released this track, but the sheer hype surrounding it has not calmed down since the moment it dropped. Dropped as the lead single from the highly anticipated upcoming album, Tension, Padam Padam is an electropop club banger, combining classic Kylie with a modern, gritty twist to her usual sound. The single has also sparked memes across social media, with fans incorporating ‘padam’ into any pop culture reference they can. When she sang “I’ll be in your head all weekend”, she wasn’t kidding.

Cuff It – Beyoncé

Pride Month had been and gone by the time this hit came out in 2022, so it's time to crank up the speakers for Pride 2023! Like much of the critically acclaimed record Renaissance, Cuff It saw Beyoncé take a more groove-inspired approach to her dance tracks. It’s the most streamed song on the album for a reason – it’s funky, it’s fun and it will liven up any dance floor. With writing credits from Nile Rodgers, co-founder of the timeless Chic, we can see this track being a go-to hit for many years to come.

Unholy – Sam Smith and Kim Petras

Sam Smith and Kim Petras broke expectations, boundaries, and even world records with the release of their sultry duet Unholy. Inevitably sparking controversy among more conservative listeners, this duo were not fazed by any backlash, only doubling down upon their confidence. One of the biggest queer anthems of the year so far, it shot to number one on the charts, marking the first time in history that both a transgender artist (Kim Petras) and an openly non-binary artist (Sam Smith) have obtained a number one Billboard single. Though Sam Smith has achieved number one singles before, this was the first time they accomplished this goal since coming out as non-binary.

River – Miley Cyrus

Not many people saw the immense success of Miley Cyrus’ comeback song Flowers coming, achieving all kinds of records and recognitions. Aside from becoming the most streamed song on Spotify in its first and second week of release, it also achieved notability as the fastest song to reach one billion streams. Then came the difficult follow-up single. In classic Cyrus fashion, she did not disappoint, continuing to deliver fun, memorable and electrifying tracks. Whilst Flowers was a more mellow entry, River is an energetic, 80s inspired pure pop song, guaranteed to fill the dance floor within the first 5 seconds. Perfect for Pride!

Years and Years – American Boy

Estelle’s ‘American Boy’ is a certified 00s classic, likely to be played at almost every party or club you go to. Covering it in a satisfactory way is no mean feat, but if anyone could manage it, its Years and Years frontman Olly Alexander. Bringing an entirely new, darker energy to the track, this gritty cover followed the release of his first solo album Night Call. Alexander captures the catchy elements of the song and simply expands upon them, doing justice to Estelle’s original track and giving us a delightfully lively addition to his discography in the process.

Satellite - Bebe Rehxa feat. Snoop Dogg

In perhaps the most unexpected hit of the year so far, this collaboration calls back to discos' most classic roots, whilst also adding a new modern twist. Although initially surprising, Bebe Rehxa and Snoop Dogg complement each other perfectly on the unconventional track, singing about a shared love of getting “higher than a satellite” (you might see how Snoop Dogg fits into it now). From the popstars new self-titled record, Bebe, it’s one of many funk-infused songs gifted to us this Pride season. We’re very much here for the resurgence of disco in recent years!

Lipstick Lover - Janelle Monae

Actor and singer Janelle Monae returns to the charts with yet another hit, this time in the form of pop-reggae track Lipstick Lover. The pansexual artist is embracing her queerness with more passion than ever before, with confident and sensual lyrics about her experiences with women. “I’ll do anything for my lipstick lover,” she sings over a soft, summery beat. Released as a promotional single from her 2023 album The Age of Pleasure, this acts as a glimpse into Monae's exploration in sexuality and intimacy.

Tattoo – Loreen

Two-time Eurovision winner Loreen struck gold when she released her competition-winning track Tattoo, to an incredible reaction. With powerhouse vocals and intense instrumentation, it’s no wonder this song stuck out to viewers across the globe, who voted Loreen as their winner for the second time in recent history. Catchy, fun, and still trending one month later, we can’t see the hype towards this track dying down anytime soon. A certified must-have to include in your 2023 Pride Party playlists!

Dance The Night – Dua Lipa

This lead song from the soundtrack of the Barbie Movie has only just been released and has already accumulated nearly 30 million streams on Spotify alone. Dua Lipa continues to develop her roots in nu-disco after the immense success of her sophomore record Future Nostalgia, and it works perfectly for the theme of the movie. The excitement surrounding the release of Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, has also spread towards the release of the film’s soundtrack. Artists involved include Ava Max, Charli XCX, Haim, Ice Spice, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj and PinkPantheress, so we’re already guaranteed a very camp time.
