Bestselling Author Nicholas Sparks is Attempting to Ban an LGBT+ Club at School He Co-Founded

Nicholas Sparks, the bestselling author of the Notebook, has reportedly been trying to ban an LGBT+ club at the Christian school he co-founded.

In an expose by The Daily Beast, leaked emails show the author feuding with the school’s headmaster for attempting to make the school a more inclusive place for LGBT+ students, as well those of different religious and ethnic backgrounds.

Sparks says the headmaster, Saul Benjamin, has “misplaced priorities at the school level (GLBT, diversity, the beauty of other religions, as opposed to academic/curricular/global issues, Christian traditions, etc)” and has been showing “what some perceive as an agenda that strives to make homosexuality open and accepted.”

Sparks continually advises Benjaminnot to “rock the boat on this issue.”

His complaints allegedly started when he heard LGBT+ students had formed their own club at the school after other students told them they wanted to start a “homo-caust”. Sparks then accused Benjamin of secretly allowing this LBGT+ club to go ahead.

The pair are now locked in a legal battle, with Benjamin’s attorneys writing in a statement: “Sparks and members of the Board unapologetically marginalised, bullied, and harassed members of the School community whose religious views and/or identities did not conform to their religiously driven, bigoted preconceptions.”

Benjamin is seeking punitive damages for discrimination, breach of contract, emotional distress and defamation.
