Beyond the buzzwords: how data and AI are redefining DEI at work

May 27, 2026

In “DEI was canceled. DAI arrived. How AI is redefining business inclusion in 2026", Diego Tomasino explains how companies are quietly rebuilding inclusion work under new names and with new tools.

By 2025, “DEI” and even words like “diversity,” “equity,” and “inclusion” had almost vanished from Fortune 100 communications, driven by political and legal pressure, especially in the US. But the underlying problems (biased hiring, unequal promotion, pay gaps, and intersectional barriers) haven’t gone away. Instead, leading companies are relabeling and redesigning the work around terms like belonging, opportunity programs, talent equity, skills‑first hiring, and fair access - language that connects directly to quality, performance, and business outcomes.

AI is what makes this shift practical. Rather than visible, politicized DEI campaigns, organizations are using AI to embed inclusion into the core of their operations:

Hiring and job design: Language models flag biased wording in job ads and reveal statistical bias in past hiring decisions, turning “diversity” into a recruitment quality and risk issue.

Internal mobility and development: AI maps who actually gets access to high‑profile projects, mentors, and development tracks, exposing patterns of exclusion before they become retention crises.

Quiet measurement: Instead of public diversity scorecards, companies track equity internally and use those insights to guide leadership decisions - keeping the commitment while avoiding the political crossfire.

Tomasino’s core point is that intersectionality is still real - for women in STEM, first‑generation professionals, LGBTQ+ people, non‑metropolitan and lower‑income talent. What’s changed is the strategy: the future of inclusion is systemic, data‑driven, and AI‑enabled, designed to be harder to dismantle than a branded DEI program.

These shifts are exactly what myGwork will unpack during WorkPride Day 4 in the panel on “AI and Belonging.” The session will explore how organizations can move from slogans to systems by:

  • Using AI to reduce bias in recruitment, promotion, and performance reviews
  • Deploying accessibility and assistive technologies so disabled and neurodivergent employees can fully participate
  • Designing AI‑supported talent development that opens real mobility paths for frontline, non‑traditional, and underrepresented talent
  • Framing all of this as good business - improving quality of hire, retention, innovation, and employer brand
myGwork community — the world's largest LGBTQ+ professional platform connecting one million professionals with inclusive employers

Attendees will leave with practical ideas for auditing where bias quietly enters talent processes, choosing and implementing AI tools that actually support equity and belonging, and talking about this work in ways that resonate with leaders and withstand political scrutiny.

This is a chance to hear from experts who are already building AI‑enabled, inclusive workplaces - and to translate those insights into action in your own organization. WorkPride will also feature a number of other panels on current trends in DEI and how to stay on top in business.

Beyond WorkPride, myGwork is a year‑round platform connecting LGBTQ+ professionals and allies with inclusive employers, events, and resources worldwide.
