Boots’ festive commercial, titled “Make Magic,” features Bridgerton actress Adjoa Andoh as a very organized Mrs. Claus. It follows a classic format with a twist: as Christmas approaches, Santa snoozes in his chair, prompting his wife to step in.
Elves bustle around in a rebranded “Mrs Claus’s werkshop,” gifts accumulate on a sleigh, and there’s an abundance of baubles, tinsel, and glitter. While the advert appears typical, it has sparked the trending hashtag #BoycottBoots on X (formerly Twitter) since its release on Thursday, according to ‘Yahoo! News’.
Adjoa Andoh uses they/them pronouns for one gift recipient. Additionally, some elves are portrayed by trans social media influencers.
Previously, Andoh appeared on ITV during the King's coronation coverage and commented on the contrast between the “rich diversity of the Abbey” and the “terribly white balcony” at Buckingham Palace, which led to over 8,000 complaints to Ofcom. Andoh later explained in a Radio 4 interview that her comment was meant to reflect on the diversity of the day, and she did not intend to offend anyone.
