Box's Maureen Thompson on a lifelong journey of LGBTQ+ allyship

August 6, 2026

From the stage to the boardroom, Maureen Thompson has always been surrounded by – and standing up for – the LGBTQ+ community. Now Senior Director, P&C Strategy, Chief of Staff & Internal Comms at Box, she brings that same fierce allyship to the workplace, championing Pride inclusion, supporting transitioning colleagues, and helping drive meaningful change for LGBTQ+ equality.

When and why did you choose to support the LGBTQ+ community in its fight for equality?

"As a lifelong dancer, choir kid, performer and musical theater lover, I was introduced to the LGBTQ+ community from an early age. Whether it was a musical director, dance teacher, fellow choir members, or on stage performers, I was surrounded by folks from all backgrounds, including the Pride community - many of whom are still dear and close friends today.

Growing up, I experienced the need to advocate for my fellow performers outside of the stage to prevent my friends from being bullied - and that fierce loyalty to protect and celebrate my friends has evolved into sharing in the fight for equality both in the workplace and in the world. Whether helping my colleagues draft guides to assist transitioning employees and their managers, leading our Pride ERC, or generally supporting, bringing awareness to, and voting for LGBTQ+ rights and issues, the fight burns strong in me!"

Box is a proud partner of myGwork, the LGBTQ+ business community. Find out more about LGBTQ+ inclusive job opportunities at Box.
