Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro Accused The WHO Of Encouraging Childhood Homosexuality

May 4, 2020

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro accused the World Health Organisation (WHO) of encouraging childhood homosexuality and masturbation, in a now-deleted Facebook post. The post was uploaded just a day after he shrugged off concerns that Brazil’s COVID-19 death count has reached 5,000, counting 474 deaths in a day, telling reporters: “So what? I mourn [the deaths], what do you want me to do?”

On his Facebook post, Bolsonaro wrote: “This is the World Health Organization, whose advice on coronavirus some people want me to follow. Should we follow their education policy guidelines, too? For children zero to four years old: satisfaction and pleasure when touching their bodies, masturbation … For children four to six years old: a positive gender identity … masturbation in early childhood, same-sex relations … Nine to 12 years old: first sexual experience.”

Bolsonaro’s post did not have a direct source but ‘Business Insider’ took a look at a guide titled “Standards for Sexuality Education in Europe” published by the WHO which seems to have triggered Bolsonaro.

The guide outlines how children learn about their bodies, explains their curiosity about sexuality and normalises kids touching themselves. Although the guide is explanatory it does not encourage masturbation or homosexuality.
