Bristol elects bisexual MP in first Green Party win for constituency

Carla Denyer, co-leader of the Green Party and proud bisexual woman, has emerged victorious as Bristol's first Green Member of Parliament. Denyer's win in the seat of Bristol Central, defeating long-standing Labour candidate Thangam Debbonaire, marks a momentous occasion for both the Green Party and the LGBTQ+ community.

Securing an impressive 24,539 votes (56.6%), Denyer's resounding victory of over 10,000 votes against Debbonaire highlights the strong support she garnered from the electorate. As she basked in the success of her win, Denyer expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, "I'm feeling over the moon and so grateful for all of the support we received from voters in Bristol Central and across the country."

In an interview with BBC News, Denyer emphasized the positive reception of the Green Party's policies among voters, citing initiatives such as an increased minimum wage and improved investment in public services. She regarded the election as a transformative moment for the Greens, noting, "The voters have spoken; I think this is the direction of travel for Greens from now on."
