Britain’s oldest drag queen dies aged 91

David Raven, recognised as Britain’s oldest drag queen, has passed away at the age of 91, according to ‘BBC’. Known by his stage name Maisie Trollette, David became a prominent figure at Brighton Pride, participating since the event’s inception in 1973. Born in 1933, Ms. Trollette embarked on a distinguished career as part of the Trollettes duo, alongside Jimmy Court.

Mark Inscoe, a West End artist and close friend, remarked, “He was an absolute legend in the entertainment industry, particularly in cabaret and pantomime.” He praised Ms. Trollette as “extraordinary” and emphasised his charitable activities, which included fundraising efforts for an orphanage in Thailand. “He had warmth and wit,” Inscoe added.

Another drag performer, La Voix, known for her appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, commented, “We lost a true cabaret legend.” She recalled fond memories of working with Maisie Trollette in the cabaret scenes of London, Brighton, and at various Pride events. “Her acid tongue always put me in my place and I loved her for it. She said to me, 'never be afraid of youth, La Voix’,” she shared.

The Sussex Beacon, a Brighton charity providing specialised care for people living with HIV, stated that Ms. Trollette brought “immense joy to countless numbers of people within the LGBT community.” A spokesperson noted, “His compassion, generosity, kindness, and razor-sharp wit will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, David. Thank you so much, for everything.”
