The annual British LGBT Award nominees have been announced, celebrating the achievements of the LGBT+ community and their allies.
“The 2018 NatWest British LGBT Awards shortlist showcases a range of public figures and famous straight allies who use their platform to enhance the rights of the LGBT community,” Sarah Garret, the awards founder said today, “The ceremony on 11 May is set to be the biggest British LGBT Awards to date.”
Alan Carr, who hosted the awards last year, added that “It is a fantastic event that does so much to celebrate people in the LGBT community who are making a real difference, as well as highlighting the straight allies who give their much-needed support. It is always a glitzy and fabulous affair with some very special moments.”
Some notable nominees include Laverne Cox, Sarah Paulson and Colton Haynes for LGBT+ Celebrity of the year, Kate McKinnon, Stephen Fry and Graham Norton for LGBT+ Broadcaster/Journalist of the year, and Ariana Grande, David Beckham and Dawn French for straight ally of the year.
For “Best LGBT+ Media Moments” there is Australia’s yes result for equal marriage, Will & Grace’s comeback, Moonlight’s best picture win at the Oscars, and Justin Trudeau apologising to the LGBT+ community for past criminalisation.
