British tourists arrested in Gran Canaria for verbally assaulting gay couple

Three British tourists have been arrested for verbally assaulting a gay British couple on a flight to Gran Canaria in Spain. The couple allege the group continued to hurl abusive and homophobic comments at them on the airport bus and all the way through to the terminal where they collected their luggage. The incident is surprising as Gran Canaria is a popular gay tourist destination.

The couple were able to identify the group on CCTV who were then subsequently tracked down to the holiday resort Playa del Ingles. The trio, described as being between the ages of 25 and 28, were arrested and charged with committing “a crime against the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution”.

The trio has since been released, with no further details given, although some news outlets have reported they are all male and have been identified in Spanish media as RDJ, LW, and KT.
