Catholic Minister Fired for Liking Facebook Same-Sex Marriage Post

October 7, 2018

An outreach minister in Cleveland has had his contract terminated because he liked a post of a friend’s same-sex wedding, News 5 Cleveland reports.

Kevin Kozark, who is himself gay but had not made that known to the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, was called into a meeting with his supervisor to discuss his recent activity on social media.

“They sat me down and they said we had seen some things on Facebook and Twitter and that would like to talk to you about that,” he said.

“It was a quick meeting. The very next day, I received a letter that said I was terminated.

“The church in Cleveland has just been very discriminatory in my opinion.”

“It’s a wake-up call for me, it’s a wake-up call that I didn’t really realise the Catholic Church would act like this.”

The Church has since said it does not comment on individual employment terminations, but is assured the action taken against Kozark was appropriate.
