Celebrating LGBTQ+ Women
April 28, 2023During an increasingly divisive time for LGBTQ+ people, it has become more important than ever to uplift voices within our community that are too-often overlooked. LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people have been the backbone of the community for as long as history has recorded us, and that remains the case to this day in the constant fight for equality.
In honor of Lesbian Visibility Week and to commemorate the incredible contributions made by these groups, myGwork worked with DIVA to show appreciation for the women and non-binary people within the LGBTQ+ community, and their continued efforts to strive for a better world. We have launched a list of LGBTQ+ professionals who are all helping to change the world in their own way.
Included in this list are business professionals, musicians, artists, authors, healthcare workers, directors, and many more. Indicating the full range of talent displayed by LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people, the list honors contributions towards not just our own community, but our wider culture too.
From Creative Directors like Larissa Machado from Warner Bros. Discovery to Branch Managers like Natalie Downing from Enterprise, businesses are slowly beginning to realize the unique value and experience LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people can bring to the table. Activists including Eva Echo and Yasmin Benoit are equally integral in the ongoing fight to achieve equal treatment both in the workplace and in society as a whole. A number of LGBTQ+ women from myGwork are proud additions to the list, including Zoë Schulz, Sabela Cal, Cristina Gaviria Beltrán, Dominika Navratilova and Sage Kuo, who work hard every day to strive for diversity and inclusion across the world.
Michelle Raymond, Global Business Development Director at myGwork, spoke with pride at being included in this list of influential and incredible people. She remarked that there is still a long way to go in combatting discrimination against the community, but that the continued fight is indicative of their resilience.
“The world is richer and more vibrant, thanks to the contributions of LGBTQIA women and non-binary people,” said Michelle. “This community have faced unique challenges and obstacles, but they have also shown remarkable courage, resilience, and creativity in the face of adversity.
“Despite the progress that has been made, LGBTQIA women and non-binary people still face discrimination, prejudice, and violence. But their bravery and resilience cannot be overstated. They continue to fight for their rights and the rights of all LGBTQIA people, even in the face of adversity.”
The launch of this list follows the results of myGwork's recent Lesbian Visibility survey. According to our data, three quarters of LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people are not completely out due to fears of discrimination. Statistics like this show that celebrating the achievements of LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people and lifting their voices wherever possible is as integral as ever.
