Celebrating Pride Month

June 29, 2021

As a global company with more than 14,000 employees in 21 countries, our diverse, global mix of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives strengthens Assurant. We strive to highlight and recognise our differences while underscoring what brings us together. In June, we are recognising members of the LGTBQ+ community during Pride Month.

Many countries observe Pride Month in June, while some celebrate other months commemorating the start of LGTBQ+ movements around the globe. In some parts of the world, it is still illegal to be publicly a member of the LGBTQ+ community, which is why celebrating is so important. Pride Month offers a time to recognise the many contributions of LGBTQ+ identified people throughout history and acknowledge their challenges and fight for equality.

LGBTQ+ Pride Month events draw millions of participants from around the world each year. Typically, there are month-long celebrations and in-person gatherings that take place and memorials also are often held for members of the LGBTQ+ community who have lost their lives to hate crimes. After the coronavirus pandemic cancelled nearly every in-person event in 2020, many are back this year with a mixture of in-person and virtual events.

Committed to Equality and Inclusion for All Employees

Assurant is proud to be the recipient of a perfect score of 100 again in this year'sCorporate Equality Index (CEI), an annual survey of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). This gives Assurant the distinction of being one of the "Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality." Maintaining a perfect score further reflects our inclusive employment, business and community engagement practices, including Assurant's global Supplier Diversity & Inclusion programme to further improve representation of certified supplier companies as well as our broader employee focused initiatives such as gender-neutral, family-friendly benefits and transgender-inclusive health care benefits in the U.S.

Earlier this year, we were recognised in France with the “Le Tour de France de la Diversité: 2020 Gender Equality Award” for our actions and initiatives in favour of equality in the workplace.

Assurant Foundation Support, Special 2:1 Match

Assurant and the Assurant Foundation continually support several charities focused onadvocating for LGBTQ+ rights. This year, an Assurant Foundation grant of $25,000 is being donated to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), a leading organisation that strives to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ people and realise a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all. In May, a grant to a transgender shelter home in Brazil was provided.

Employee support of organisations that advocate for LGBTQ+ rights worldwide and amplify the Pride spirit is critical. This month the Assurant Foundation has activated a special 2-for-1 match from the Assurant Foundation to make our colleagues’ personal donations to LGBTQ+ charitable organisations go even further.

Continuing the Conversation & Showing Pride

At Assurant, we know that a diverse and inclusive workplace drives innovation, enables more creative and effective problem solving and improves overall performance. We encourage and welcome a workplace where diverse perspectives and experiences drive Assurant to be a best place to learn and work.
