Child of Eddie Murphy & Spice Girl Mel B comes out as a trans man

The child of actor/comedian Eddie Murphy and Spice Girl Melanie Brown has seemingly come out as a trans man.

Angel Murphy Brown, now 18, has reportedly updated his Instagram bio to indicate he uses the pronouns him/his, a change that sources say has received support from his well-known parents, according to ‘LGBTQ Nation’.

“It’s a decision Angel made and Mel has been understanding, likewise Eddie,” a source informed the Daily Mail. “There was no significant event to announce it. Angel simply wanted to communicate the appropriate pronouns.”

In May, Angel’s mother mentioned him using he/him pronouns during an interview with Us Weekly. On social media, it’s evident that she and Angel share a close bond. She praised him in an April birthday post, stating he is “so special and so bright and so talented.”

“I couldn't be prouder of watching you grow and become the person you are, but you’ll forever be my baby… Love you always,” she expressed.

Angel is one of Murphy’s 10 children and one of Brown’s three. The two dated briefly in 2006, and Angel was born in 2007. As a baby, he became public news during a contentious paternity dispute where Murphy initially denied being Angel’s father. Brown eventually sued for child support.

In a 2019 interview with Piers Morgan, Brown mentioned that Murphy “still apologizes to this day about that.”

“He regrets ever saying it,” she continued, “since that baby was planned; we planned that baby together, and we were deeply in love, and it just didn’t work out, it went wrong dramatically.”

She also told US Weekly that Murphy is “a true father” and that he and Angel spend time together regularly.

Murphy has also offered multiple apologies for his early stand-up routines that contained homophobic comments, anti-gay slurs, and jokes about AIDS. In 1996, he reflected that the “misinformed 21-year-old” who made those jokes had evolved into an “informed 35-year-old man.”
