Children’s TV Show Arthur Banned From Airing Gay Wedding Episode in Alabama

Veteran children’s television show Arthur has had its latest episode banned from airing in Alabama because it features a gay wedding, reports NBC News.

In the season 22 premiere, Arthur and his friends attend the same-sex wedding of their teacher Mr Ratburn. The episode first aired across the United States on May 13, but was not shown by the Alabama Public Television (APT).

“It would be a violation of trust to broadcast the episode,” said Mike McKenzie, the director of programming at APT.

“Parents have trusted Alabama Public Television for more than 50 years to provide children’s programs that entertain, educate and inspire.

“More importantly – although we strongly encourage parents to watch television with their children and talk about what they have learned afterwards – parents trust that their children can watch APT without their supervision. We also know that children who are younger than the ‘target’ audience for ‘Arthur’ also watch the program.”
