CNN Anchor Implores Kevin Hart to Be a Better LGBT+ Ally

Don Lemon, a CNN News anchor, has implored Kevin Hart to step up and be a better ally to the LGBT+ community following the backlash from his appearance on Ellen (see above).

Hart was set to host the Oscars when several homophobic tweets of his emerged. Hart’s old stand-up routines have resurfaced as well, in which he says he would beat his son if he showed any gay tendencies.

Hart appeared on the Ellen show in an attempt to plead his case, but the appearance has received considerable backlash as Hart has yet to apologise for his homophobic remarks.

Lemon has used his platform at CNN to call Hart out and to ask him to understand why the LGBT+ community is so hurt by his jokes.

In the powerful segment (see above), Lemon accuses Hart of turning “himself into a victim instead of acknowledging the real victims of violent and sometimes deadly homophobia.”

“Kevin, if anything, this is the time to hear other people out. To understand why they might have been offended,” Lemon continues.

“Walking away right now, that is your choice. But many of us really need to keep the conversation going. It’s life or death.

“Someone like Kevin Hart, with one of the biggest megaphones in the world, can be a leader, the ultimate change agent. He can help change homophobia in the black community, something Kevin’s old Twitter jokes addressed but in the wrong way.”
