Dove releases campaign for paternity leave

Dove releases campaign for paternity leave

June 15, 2018

Dove Men+Care has released a Father’s Day campaign to raise funds and awareness for paternity leave. The video, titled #DearFutureDads, features all sorts of different fathers, including Marion and Carl, two real-life gay dads. The fathers offer advice for new dads and express the importance of being there when the baby first arrives.

Parental leave is a big issue for same-sex couples, especially gay men. “Even when paternity leave or non-gendered leave policies are available, sometimes they’re just there as a formality,” Holning Lau, professor of law at the University of North Carolina, explains.

To further raise awareness, Dove has donated to parental leave fundraisers for 27 dads, including Mike Levy and his husband Enrique who spent all of their savings on child surrogacy.

Nick Soukas, vice president of skin cleansing and baby care at Unilever, says Dove hopes this campaign will help push men across the country, gay or straight, to either take advantage of paid paternity leave, or advocate for it.
