Projekt 42, a non-profit gym based in Leith, has become the first in the UK to offer free classes to trans and gender-nonconforming people.
Organisers say they hope to provide a safe space for trans people to work out and participate in classes, without fear of discrimination.
“We believe this is the first time a weekly exercise class for trans and non-binary folx that focuses on gender affirming exercises has been launched in the UK,” said studio and activities senior manager Matt Whale.
He added that classes would be developed from the feedback they received from participants in order to “make them inclusive and comfortable for the people that come to them.”
Trans people in the area have already signed up, with one of the coaches noting how training non-binary people has made a positive impact on their lives.
