Ellen DeGeneres Sends Message Of Love And Surprises Lesbian Couple On Her Show

November 26, 2019

Ellen DeGeneres surprised a lesbian couple whose unsupportive parents didn’t want to attend the wedding by inviting the couple to her show.

“After getting engaged to her beautiful fiancée, Sarah, Kate Austin had tweeted at DeGeneres saying that her parents aren’t supportive of her relationship and that they refuse to attend the couple’s wedding because their daughter is gay”, ‘Out’ writes.

DeGeneres invited Kate Austin and her fiancée Sarah to her show and gave them her stage to celebrate the happy moment with them.

Austin thanked Ellen for all the inspiration she’s provided over the years. “[I]f it wasn’t for someone like you, I would’ve never had the courage to just go out there in public and propose to my fiancée,” she said. “So many people don’t accept that, and you paved the way for queer women everywhere.”

“Everybody deserves love,” Ellen replied. “And the fact that your family doesn’t accept it, I am so sorry.”

“My mom was really terrible,” Austin told DeGeneres. “I’ve been out for five years now, so she’s said everything you can think of under the sun. But coming out and owning it... taught me courage and owning who I am and it allowed me to be my authentic self.”

“I am so happy that you had the courage to do it,” Degeneres said.

The host surprised the couple with some wedding gifts: a life-size cutout of Ellen to stand in for her at the wedding, some of the couple’s best friends hidden in a huge box, and a $25,000 check so they can have an open bar at their wedding.
