Emma Dumont, star of ‘Oppenheimer', comes out as transmasculine

Emma Dumont, known for their role in Oppenheimer, has announced that they identify as transmasculine nonbinary, choosing the name Nick for close friends and family while continuing to use Emma Dumont professionally.

According to ‘LGBTQ Nation’, earlier this week, the actor updated their pronouns on Instagram. A representative told TMZ, “They identify as a trans masculine nonbinary person. Their work name will still be Emma Dumont, but they will go by Nick with friends and family.”

At 30, Dumont is recognised for their roles in the ABC Family series Bunheads, as Emma Karn in NBC’s Aquarius, and Lorna Dane/Polaris in FOX’s X-Men series The Gifted.

They gained significant attention last year playing Robert Oppenheimer’s sister-in-law in Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning Best Picture, ‘Oppenheimer’.

Originally from Seattle, Dumont began their career on stage as a ballet dancer before branching into musical theatre. At 15, they became enthusiastic about roller derby, joining Los Angeles Derby Dolls’ training programs. In 2010, they signed a modelling contract with Ford Models.

Additionally, they are a skilled robotics engineer, having been part of a NASA/JPL and Walt Disney Imagineering-sponsored FIRST Tech Challenge team twice. Dumont’s filmography includes Inherent Vice (2014), What Lies Ahead (2019), Wrong Turn (2021), and the critically lauded Licorice Pizza by director Paul Thomas Anderson in the same year.

Transmasculine refers to those whose gender identity is male or partly masculine, differing from their sex assigned at birth.

One fan commented on Dumont’s recent Instagram photos, “I’m getting the cool lead singer-guitar player in a hip indie band vibe on an unofficial solo tour for the sake of it, and I’m loving it 😎😎😎.” Dumont boasts over 400,000 followers on the platform.

Other fans added, “Happy coming out Nick” and “You’re killing it 🙌🔥👏.”

Dumont stars in their upcoming film, ‘The New Me’, a thriller by writer-director Anurag Rudra.
