Ethel Cain makes history as the first trans woman to earn a top 10 album in the U.S.A.

After finally being released on vinyl, Ethel Cain’s debut album ‘Preacher's Daughter’ has now secured a spot in the top ten in the U.S.A..

Originally released in 2022 and receiving critical acclaim, the album debuted at number one on Top Album Sales with 39,000 equivalent album units, marking Cain’s best performance to date. This achievement makes her the first openly trans woman to reach the top ten on the Billboard 200, according to ‘Gay Times’.

(Kim Petras’ debut album, ‘Feed the Beast,’ peaked at #44 on the Billboard 200. However, she became the first openly trans artist to win a Grammy Award and reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with her collaboration with Sam Smith, ‘Unholy’.)

Amid ongoing attacks on the trans community during the Trump administration, creating a more hostile environment in the U.S.A., the success of an openly trans figure like Ethel Cain on the charts is profoundly significant.

Fans are hopeful that Ethel Cain will achieve a second consecutive top ten spot—perhaps even number one!—with her upcoming album, ‘Willoughby Tucker, I Will Always Love You.’

Set for release in August 2025, the album continues from where her haunting ambient work ‘Perverts’ left off and is expected to serve as a prequel to ‘Preacher's Daughter.’

In conjunction with the album, the singer-songwriter will kick off her “largest tour to date,” called “Willoughby Tucker Forever,” featuring venues such as London’s Eventim Apollo, Paris’ L’Olympia, New York’s Radio City Music Hall, Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium, and Berkeley’s Greek Theater.
