Finding community and belonging at Virgin Media O2

April 23, 2026

When I joined Virgin Media O2, I was looking for more than just a job. I wanted a place where I could grow, feel supported and be part of something bigger. Virgin Media O2’s partnership with mygwork immediately stood out to me because it reflects a commitment to inclusion and belonging for everyone, regardless of background or identity. That sense of community has been a defining part of my career journey so far.

From the moment I started, I’ve had access to resources and communities that have shaped not only my career but also my confidence and sense of belonging.

My journey into tech

I started my career at Virgin Media O2 in 2023 on their graduate tech programme. Coming straight out of university, it was daunting to enter a competitive job market. I wasn’t aware telecoms was a prospective industry at the time and came across Virgin Media O2’s posting online. I was intrigued by the breadth of opportunities on offer and appreciated the welcoming energy during the assessment stages.

One of the best parts of the graduate scheme was the exposure to different teams and projects from cloud infrastructure to software engineering. Each rotation brought new challenges and learning opportunities, which encouraged me to take ownership and contribute meaningfully. That level of trust and responsibility early in my career was empowering. It taught me to be adaptable, to ask questions and to embrace change, which are invaluable skills in tech.

Today, I’m a Junior Full Stack Developer in the Consumer Core Engineering team, building and maintaining applications that enhance the customer experience. I love the impact our work has. There’s a strong emphasis in the company on growth and you’re encouraged to explore opportunities beyond your immediate role. It means my career isn’t limited to a single path. It’s a journey with endless possibilities.

The impact of our Enrich network

A big part of my journey has been discovering Enrich, our employee network that empowers and advocates for our global majority community and it is one of our six employee networks. Finding a network like this gave me an immediate sense of belonging and reminded me that I wasn’t navigating this journey alone. The network hosts several virtual and in-person sessions throughout the year. These are opportunities for us to build relationships and gain insights. I’ve attended industry panel discussions at the O2 Blueroom and even had the chance to network at music events in the company’s corporate box at The O2 These experiences go beyond the day-to-day and make you feel part of something exciting.

Through Enrich, I’ve developed transferable skills and learnt from people who’ve achieved what I aspire to. I’ve also had the privilege of becoming a mentor through the Step Up Women in STEM program, which has taught me how to be a better ally and advocate.

For me, inclusion isn’t just a buzzword, it’s about creating an environment where everyone feels they can bring their whole selves to work.

If you’re looking for a career where you can grow, feel included, and be part of a community that truly cares, Virgin Media O2 is the place to be. Explore opportunities and learn more about who we are and what we stand for through mygwork, your next step could be the start of an incredible journey.
