Zero Discrimination Day is marked on the 1st of March each year and was instituted by the UNAIDS organisation in 2014 when Executive Director Michel Sidibé launched the event in Beijing on the 27th of February.
Evolving Purposes
Whilst Zero Discrimination Day was instituted by UNAIDS, the day is not exclusively about tackling the stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS. Whilst this has certainly been a focus of the event, groups around the world mark the day by tackling discrimination against a variety of communities and identities.

The Theme of Zero Discrimination Day 2023, set by UNAIDS, is Save Lives: Decriminalise, which aims to highlight how decriminalising populations of people who live with HIV helps improve healthcare outcomes and brings us closer to ending the AIDS pandemic.
