Starting your career is about more than finding a job. It's about finding a place where you can learn, grow and transform your tomorrow, while being yourself.
While I did not join WTW as a recent graduate, I was pursuing a degree in Social Work when I discovered this career path. I knew I wanted a profession centred on helping people while also providing opportunities for growth and intellectual challenge. WTW has allowed me to do both, and these are my top five reasons for joining and continuing to build my career here.
1. Inclusivity matters from day one
For graduates entering the workplace, feeling welcomed and supported can make all the difference.
One of the first things I noticed about WTW was its inclusive culture. I have never been made to feel like an outsider among my peers. Although we each have our own responsibilities, everyone is encouraged to collaborate, ask questions, share knowledge and support one another.
The environment is highly team oriented, and I genuinely feel connected to my colleagues. Coming to work often feels like working alongside friends who are all striving toward the same goal: helping our clients succeed.
2. Inclusion creates opportunities to learn
As a Hispanic transgender man, finding genuinely inclusive workplaces has sometimes been a challenge. At many organizations, I felt as though I was the one adding diversity to the place I work. At WTW, however, I am surrounded by people from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, experiences and areas of expertise.
It is inspiring to learn from others, celebrate our differences and feel accepted for who we are. Most importantly, my colleagues see me as a person first rather than defining me by my identity.
For graduates looking for an inclusive employer, being part of a workplace where different perspectives are valued can make a real difference.
3. Work that makes a difference
Many graduates want their work to have a positive impact and that is one of the things I value most about my career.
The work we do has a real impact on people's lives. Helping individuals navigate complex and often stressful life transitions is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that I have helped someone find clarity, solutions or peace of mind during a challenging time provides a level of fulfilment that is difficult to describe.
It is one of the reasons I am proud of the work I do every day and proud to be part of WTW.
4. Learning and career growth never stop
One of the biggest considerations for graduates is whether an organisation will invest in their future.
When I first joined WTW, I was looking for experience within the industry and was immediately drawn to the company's culture. Over time, WTW continued to invest in my development through ongoing training and cross-training opportunities. These experiences have significantly increased both my confidence and my ability to contribute to the organisation.
I began as a seasonal Benefits Advisor and have since expanded my knowledge to include corporate social responsibilities (CSR) responsibilities, funding processes and supporting other teams when needed.
WTW provides clear opportunities for advancement, and it is encouraging to see colleagues move into senior roles and leadership positions. Promoting and developing talent from within is one of the many strengths that makes WTW a place where employees can build long-term careers.
5. The experience you gain stays with you
The skills you build early in your career can shape your future for years to come.
The experience gained is both broad and rewarding. From enrolment and applications to funding and technical troubleshooting, every day presents opportunities to learn and develop new skills. Each client interaction is unique and requires problem-solving, making every call an opportunity for growth.
The knowledge and experience I have gained here have been invaluable, and while I don't know where my career will take me, I know these skills will continue to benefit me in the future.
Building a career where you can be yourself
Looking back, joining WTW has been one of the best decisions I've made since finishing high school. The opportunities to learn, develop new skills and work alongside people from different backgrounds have shaped my career in ways I could never have expected.
For graduates entering the workforce, choosing the right employer is about more than securing your first role. It's about finding a place where you can learn, build confidence and be yourself. For me, WTW has provided all those things through an inclusive culture, impactful work, ongoing development and valuable experience. Those are the reasons I continue to build my career here, and why I believe WTW is a great place for graduates to begin theirs.
