Football Legend Paul Gascoigne Speaks Out In Support Of Son Regan After Coming Out
August 7, 2020Paul Gascoigne has publicly spoken about his support of his son Regan, after he publicly announced during a television interview that he is bisexual.
Gazza, 53, said he was unaware of dancer Regan’s sexuality until an interview last year.
Talking to ‘The Mirror’, he revealed: “He texted me the night before and I saw him on the TV talking about it. I told him: ‘It doesn’t matter what you do son, I will support you 100 percent, you have to do what makes you happy’.
“I thought ‘bless him’. To go on TV and do that is hard. He is a professional dancer, he is a fit guy, and I am very proud of him. I also get on well with him and my stepchildren Bianca and Mason.
“I have a good relationship with them all.”
Recalling his 1998 divorce from Regan’s mum Sheryl, 54, he added: “I didn’t get married to get divorced, it took me six years to get over that.
“Emotionally it was really tough, and I have been single ever since, single for more than 31 years. If I met the right person, then I would start a relationship, but I haven’t met the right person.”
He stressed that he was coping with his addiction to alcohol during lockdown, but he added: “You can never say never with the drink.
“You can socialise and have a few beers. I can have one if I want, but for me one is a waste of time. If I touch the drink, if I have four, it is not enough because I get bored.”
In the TV interview in November, Regan said: “I’ve never actually come out. I never made a point of coming out. I’ve just let it come out organically.
“When anyone asked me I would be honest and say ‘yeah I’ve dated both boys and girls’. I feel like we shouldn’t have to come out. It should be normal.
Revealing the messages he sent to his dad, Regan added: “I texted him ‘so sorry we haven’t had this chat I’ve just felt like I’ve never needed this chat with you. I know you’re going to be OK’. And he was.”
