Former Pope Benedict XVI Attacks Gay Marriage In New Biography

Former Pope Benedict XVI has attacked gay marriage in his new biography. The 93-year-old, whose original name is Joseph Ratzinger, mentions above others in his new authorised biography, ‘Benedict XVI - A Life’, that “A century ago, anyone would have thought it absurd to talk about homosexual marriage. Today those who oppose it are excommunicated from society.”

“It's the same thing with abortion and creating human life in the laboratory,” he writes, adding that it's “only natural” for people to “fear the spiritual power of the Antichrist.”

The Pope Emiratus claims that he has continuously fallen victim to a “malignant distortion of reality” in reactions to his interventions in theological debates.

“The spectacle of reactions coming from German theology is so misguided and ill-willed that I would prefer not to speak of it,” he says. “I would rather not analyse the actual reasons why people want to silence my voice,” Benedict added.

As the ‘Daily Mail’ reports, while in office from 2005-2013 Benedict was often criticised for his attitudes towards Islam and social questions, while he has also been accused of trying to undermine the modernisations drive of current Pope Francis.

Benedict mentions Pope Francis in his biography, claiming that his “personal friendship with Pope Francis has not only endured, but grown”.
