Gay Thai Heartthrobs Encourage HIV Testing in New Campaign

November 28, 2018

Gay heartthrobs Model Tudtu Jirat and TV host Popeye Nathaphob Jongjitklang have appeared in a social media campaign to encourage their fellow Thai’s to get HIV tested.

They posted videos on their Facebook page explaining how easy it is to get tested and that they are going to challenge 20 of their friends to do so before the 1stof December. The videos are part of the ‘Taking It’ Campaignencouraging south east Asian men to get tested.

“Did you know that HIV testing is not that scary?” said Tudtu on his post.

The campaign is targeting men in Bangkok, Jakarta and Manila, which have some of the world’s highest rates of HIV among gay men. It is organised by the Asia Pacific HIV community network APCOM with funding from the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

“It’s a simple message but a lot of young gay men in Asia aren’t aware of HIV or don’t go for HIV tests,” saidAPCOM Executive Director Midnight Poonkasetwattana.

He hopes this will encourage regular HIV testing and destigmatise the process for gay men.
