Stock photography industry Getty IMages recently collaborated with myGwork, to create a photoshoot dedicated to representing diverse communities in professional roles. With models from across the LGBTQ+ spectrum and from different backgrounds and various life experiences, the purpose of the shoot was to showcase the range of unique identities currently working in the business industry.
Although representation in television and film and music is steadily improving, diversity in business and office spaces needs to be better portrayed in the media. With LGBTQ+ professionals involved in the photoshoot both in front and behind the camera, this collaboration sought to inspire authentic representation in order to promote pride in sexuality and gender identity in the workplace and portray strength in intersectionality.

Adrien and Pierre Gaubert, founders of myGwork, were thrilled to see this photoshoot take place, commenting on the relevance of portraying diverse identities in business nowadays.
“We’re so excited to collaborate with Unsplash for this incredible project. Over the years, we’ve seen so many companies use stock imagery that fails to represent the range of diverse identities in most workplaces at the moment. Portraying marginalized communities in an authentic way is important across all media, so we’re very proud to be a part of this groundbreaking photoshoot.”
One of the models involved in the Unsplash/myGwork collaboration was Thea Bardot, a trans non-binary professional and founder of Lightning Travel Recruitment. During the photoshoot, Thea discussed what it means to them to be involved in such a progressive project.
“As a business owner we’re always trying to provide representation to multiple communities,” said Thea. “As a queer business leader, it’s really important that the representation has intersectionality amongst it. The images that are widely available are not very dynamic at all! They don’t look or feel authentic, and I think bringing your authentic self to the workplace is what all queer people aspire to do, so having stock images that really bring that to life is so important.”

myGwork content writer Dylan Mann-Hazell also took part in the photoshoot. He described why, as an openly gay man, something as seemingly small as representation in stock imagery can still have a hugely positive effect on him.
“I think representation is important across all forms of media, so not just television and film, etc,” he explained. “If you’re simply googling something and you see yourself, that can make a world of difference. Even just something as small as that, it really does make a difference.”
We are proud to continue breaking boundaries and providing authentic representation for marginalized communities across all media, and hope to inspire other companies to do the same.
