Grammys 2020 Was A Big Night For the LGBT+ Community
January 27, 2020From nominations to wins, the Grammys this year were a big night for the LBGT+ community.
Openly a member of the LGBT+ community, Lizzo won the Grammy in the category of Best Pop Solo Performance for ‘Truth Hurts’ and was this year’s most-nominated artist with a total of eight nominations. She also won the award for Best Traditional R&B Performance as well as Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Black gay musician Lil Nas X was nominated for six Grammys this year and celebrated his first Grammy. He later in the night became a multiple Grammy winner. For his performance in the massive country hit ‘Old Town Road’ with Billy Ray Cyrus, the singer took home the awards for Best Music Video and Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Openly out Tracy Young is now the first woman to win in the category of Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for her edit of Madonna’s ‘I Rise’.
Queer icon Tyler the Creator was also awarded a Grammy-winning Best Rap Album for ‘Igor’, making it his first-ever Grammy win.
Active LGBT+ ally Billie Eilish was the big winner of the night taking home five Grammys out of her six nominations in total. She also became the second artist in Grammy history to take home the ‘Big Four’, the four biggest prizes at the Grammy Awards. Best New Artist, Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year and Song Of The Year. She also won Best Pop Vocal Album.
