Nick Frost, the new actor for Hagrid in the ‘Harry Potter’ series, has openly stated his disagreement with J.K. Rowling’s stance on trans rights.

In an interview with The Observer, Frost, known for his roles in ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz,’ discussed the criticism he faced from trans rights supporters after accepting the role of the beloved half-giant in HBO’s upcoming series. J.K. Rowling, who is an executive producer on the series and played a significant role in selecting the creative team, has faced backlash for her views on trans issues, which many perceive as anti-trans.

According to ‘Variety’, Frost shared that he disabled comments on his Instagram announcement regarding his casting due to the negative responses. He asserted about Rowling: “She’s entitled to her opinion and I’m entitled to mine; they just don’t align at all.”

When questioned if the controversy surrounding Rowling might overshadow the series, Frost responded, “I don’t know,” but added: “Perhaps it shouldn’t just fade away. We shouldn’t just hope it disappears because it makes things simpler. Maybe we need to educate ourselves.”

Variety reached out to Rowling’s representatives, but they did not respond.

Meanwhile, Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy and is set to reprise his role on Broadway in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,’ told Variety at the Tony Awards that the controversy hasn’t changed his perspective on the franchise.

He remarked: “The thing I always tell myself is that I’ve been fortunate to travel around the globe — like being here in New York — and I haven’t seen anything unite the world like ‘Potter.’” Felton added, “And she’s responsible for that, so I feel incredibly grateful.”
