1. Don’t be limited by your job description
Right from the start it is important to gain a full understanding of your role and how it relates to other people in the organisation, for example reports you write could be used by people in a completely different department. Look at your role from other perspectives, this will allow you to construct a fully developed plan for what you want to achieve.
2. Find your place in the bigger picture
Research the company’s history and goals, you should know the details of the products and services the company delivers and understand your place within them.
3. Be social
While it is important to put your head down and work it is equally as important to make connections, build networks, and have friends. Getting people to know you on a personal level will help you stand out.
4. Understand expectations
Build relationships with your superiors to understand the expectations they have of you. This can go beyond your job description to more informal tasks such as networking and offering help to other team members. It will be a huge plus for you if you can help your superior with their goals.
5. Be proactive
You only get one first impression, so make the most of it! Volunteer for tasks, let people get to know you, and look for every opportunity to push yourself.
