Hunter Schafer slams Trump: “I'm never gonna stop being trans”

Hunter Schafer refuses to let her passport define her identity.

The trans actress from Euphoria recently applied for a new passport from the federal government and was “shocked” to discover it listed her gender as male upon its return, according to ‘Yahoo! Entertainment’.

“I had a bit of a harsh reality check today and felt like it's important to share with whoever is listening,” she reported in a TikTok video. “I think most remember that on the first day of Trump's presidency, he signed an executive order recognizing only two genders by the state — male and female, assigned at birth. Consequently, the Borough of Consular Affairs has frozen passport applications requesting a gender marker change or renewals or new applications with a gender not matching the one assigned at birth.”

She added, “Initially, I thought, 'I'll believe it when I see it,' because with this president, there's a lot of talk. And today, I saw it. On my new passport. Male.”

Schafer explained that her documents have shown female gender markers since her teens when she got her driver’s license and previous passports. However, her passport was stolen in Barcelona last year during filming, prompting an emergency replacement. That temporary document required updating with a new passport as soon as possible.

“When I returned to the States, I needed to fix this and get a proper passport, which I did today at the federal passport agency in L.A.,” said Schafer. “I've done this process before. Nothing was different. I filled everything out as usual. I indicated female, and upon picking it up today, I saw they had changed the marker to male.”

She clarified that she isn’t seeking sympathy or inciting fear but addressing the “reality of the situation.”

“It is actually happening,” Schafer remarked. “I was shocked. I didn't think it would happen. I must acknowledge my privilege as a well-known white trans woman who adheres to contemporary beauty norms. Despite fitting in all these categories, it still occurred.”

She mentioned her birth certificate was never changed, leading her to suspect new passport applications are being checked against individuals’ birth certificates.

“I'm worried about how gradually this is being implemented,” she said. “As seen in historical rises of fascism, rhetoric leads to action, and we begin to normalize these situations. It's crucial to share that it's happening and not just talk. No one, regardless of wealth, race, or appearance, is exempt.”

Concluding her video, Schafer expressed defiance against the attempt to deny her identity. “I also want to say, I don't care they put an M on my passport,” she declared. “It doesn't change anything about me or my transness. However, it does complicate life. I haven't experienced it yet, but I'll be traveling abroad next week with my new passport.”

“I'm pretty sure it will require me to out myself more often than necessary,” she continued. “This is my personal circumstance, and when considering other trans women or people experiencing similar situations, the hardships only increase.”

She wrapped up by affirming, “This is getting lengthy, but I just want to say trans people are beautiful. We won't stop existing. I won't stop being trans—a letter on a passport can't change that, and disregard this administration.”
