“I Want To Share This As Part Of Who I Am’ – Irish Cabinet Minister Jack Chambers Comes Out

January 14, 2024

Irish Cabinet Minister Jack Chambers has announced he is gay in a personal message posted on Instagram.

The Minister for Roads and Fianna Fáil TD posted the message online accompanied by a series of videos of his career in politics, as ‘Irish Independent’ writes.

“As I look forward to 2024 I am sharing with you something a little different but it’s something I wanted to do for a while,” he said.

“As a politician it can sometimes be difficult to speak about my own personal life and that can lead to things drifting.

“However, It’s important for me to be true to myself firstly – and to you all in my public service role. I am starting 2024 by telling you all that I am proud to say that I am gay,” he added.

“As a politician and citizen I want to share this today as part of who I am.

“Having shared it with many of my close family and friends, their support and love has given me the confidence and courage to share this publicly today.”

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar was among those to wish Minister Chambers the best after his announcement, and said: “Congratulations Jack. You’ll have no regrets and life is going to get so much better for you. All the best, Leo”.

Fianna Fáil senator Malcolm Byrne, who is gay, said: “I congratulate Jack on his decision to come out.”

“He is a Minister who has been supportive on LGBT issues and our party is very welcoming to those who identify as gay. I wish him the best and that he continues to work as hard as he has been as an excellent minister.”

Cork Fianna Fáil TD James O’Connor wrote on X: “All my support and congrats to my colleague and friend Jack Chambers today. Wishing him well.”
