Imerys: Celebrating creativity at Fowey

July 15, 2025

Over the past few months, Imerys in the UK (Cornwall) has been proud to collaborate with the The Cornwall College Group Art Department from St Austell campus, on an exciting mural project at our Fowey site — a location frequently seen by cruise liner passengers arriving at the port.

The idea was first brought to life by Marie Timms and with the valued support of Clare Sleeman, we partnered with James Baggaley and a group of talented art students to design and deliver a mural that celebrates both Imerys and the region's rich mining heritage.

Back in March, the students presented their conceptual designs, and after a round of feedback from the Imerys team, the final design was agreed. This week, the students arrived on site to begin painting, with the mural expected to be completed by early September.

This project has provided the Art students with valuable experience relevant to their studies and passion for art. It has also been rewarding for them to learn about the mining heritage and Imerys operations locally.

A big thank you to Alexander Taylor-Morrall and the team at Fowey for their ongoing support, supervision, and guidance throughout the project.

This is a fantastic opportunity for young artists to showcase their work to a global audience and a proud moment for Imerys to support the next generation of creatives while celebrating our heritage in a bold, visual way.

Stay tuned for updates as the mural comes to life!
