India’s Gay Prince Launches University Course on LGBT+

India’s famed gay prince, Singh Gohil, has announced a university course on the LGBT+ community, India Times reports. It is the first academic module on LGBT+ issues at a South Asian university.

The subject is titled “Proclivity of Gender: Socio-legal approach to LGBTQ Community” and will be available to Law and Liberal Studies students at Karnavati University in the western State of Gujurat. 60 other students will be able to take part in the course as well, from across India – including high school students. The course will examine the legal rights and history of the LGBT+ community in India.

“Educating students about the LGBTQ community will help sensitize them to the invisible sexual minority,” the prince said.

“We will present facts about the community that are backed by evidence and reasoning to the students to make them understand various aspects of the LGBT community.”

Homosexuality is still illegal in India, under Article 377 of the Penal Code – a hangover from British colonial rule.
